start-with-english-basics

It is important that you learn English from the basic and you should try to understand it completely. Now there are only few people who start with beginner level. These words “Hello, Hi, How are you” are now very common in everyday English communication.

Try to memorize the most common verbs in English such as: “be,” “have,” “do,” “say,” “get,” “make,” “go,” “know,” “take,” and “see.” Only understand these words could help you to join in a lot of basic communications.

Learn the simple sentence structure of English.

Subject + Verb + Object

Subjects are “I, you, we, they, he, she, it”.  Objects are “me, you, us, them, him, her, it” and other objects. So, it is easy to make the simple sentences for your speaking.

For examples:

  • I go to school.
  • They sees the dog.
  • He know us.
  • We have dinner.

Note: In English communication, it is important for you to speak in short and simple sentence if you are not sure about the grammar of the complex sentences.

2. Practice talking in English.

The conversations usually start with a questions. When you have a good basic understand about the simple sentence structure, some verbs and vocabulary, you can start making questions.

Wh/H questions are open questions. They are Where, When, What, Which, Why, Who and How.

–          When to talk about a time

–          Where to talk about a location

–          What to talk about a thing

–          Which to talk about a choice

–          Why to talk about a reason

–          Who to talk about a person

–          How to talk about a manner

Find a friend or a native English speaker and try to ask them these questions. For examples:

–          What is your name?

–          When is your birthday?

–          Where are you going?

–          Which color do you like?

–          Why do you come here?

–          Who do you like the most?

–          How do you spell it?

Start to learn all the basic of English tenses. Try to understand it and especially the rule to form it.

First you should learn the Present tense, Present Continuous and Present Perfect.

  • I speak English very well. (Present)

Then you move to the Past. The past is very similar to the Present Tenses. You only have to change the verbs in the past tense. The structure of the sentence keep the same.

  • I spoke English very well. (Past)

Finally, you learn the Future Tense which is the same way you understant the Past tense. You should change the Verb in present to future tense by adding “will” before the verbs.

  • I will speak english very well. (Future)

4. Make full Use of Your Resources

Speak English with native speakers

The fastest way to learn speaking English is to have an English friend to practice what you have studied. Try to immitate the language, the accent and the expressions of the native speaker while you talk with them.

You can also join an English class that have a native teacher. They can help you to  correct your pronunciation and the way you speak.

Use the Internet

There are thousands of Video on Youtube. Those lessons are spoken by native speakers. You can follow the channels and start learning English with them for free.

Listen to music, watch TV and read books.

Listening is very important. Although you are learn to speak, you cannot ignore the listen skills. By listening to the podcasts and music or whatever you have, you have to understand what you hear.

Listen to the songs that you know well. Try to understand the meaning and the pronunciation. Your vocabulary will naturally expand.

5. Think in English

Think in English now

Learn vocabulary in phrases, not only the single words (record not only the new words you come across but also a sentence that is meaningful for you – if you can’t think of any use for example Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary and copy the samples it gives).

Try to read a passage in newspaper, and try not to translate them into your mother tongue but to understand them directly in English – you might to have to read them several times, so don’t worry!

Try to “talk to yourself” in English from time to time – for example, when it’s very cold think “oh, it’s cold” instead of thinking of the phrase in your mother tongue.

Try an English dictionary (not a bilingual dictionary).
